Vegetal Glass - Verre Végétal ®

Organic living material

Born of a dialogue between nature and the hand, Vegetal Glass is a living material that I shape in a circular economy and bio-regionalism, while keeping the recipe secret. Its roots lie in the organic, in the subtle alchemy between renewable resources and the traces left by the sea. Vegetal glass is an innovative, eco-friendly material that draws its inspiration from traditional glass while using renewable, plant-based resources. It is a bio-sourced material and represents a sustainable alternative to mineral glass and petroleum-derived plastics.

I design and produce each piece entirely by hand, using only French, 100% organic, certified and controlled raw materials. I apply traditional craft techniques to innovative materials. Oyster and mussel shells, collected from local oyster farmers, are the scraps of local industry that I reintegrate into my creations. Crushed and scattered, they criss-cross the material, creating mineral veins and a marbled texture in which each fragment recounts a fragment of the ocean.

Each pigment comes from the earth, extracted without artifice, solvent or chemical compound, allowing the color to anchor itself with sincerity in the material. Metal, too, is reclaimed from the building trade and plumbing, remnants of another life that my hands divert, sculpt and reinvent. In this way, each work becomes a balance between strength and fragility, between the raw and the delicate.

Nothing is left to chance, nothing is lost: everything is transformed. Each piece I create is fashioned in Verre Végétal and sublimated by mother-of-pearl, a reminiscence of the living world. Here, nature is not an exploited resource, but a respected, celebrated and reinvented material. A sculptural manifesto in which the organic flourishes, like an echo of the sea and time.

Environmental Advantages:
- Biodegradability & Recyclability: Some plant-based glass materials decompose naturally or are hot compostable.
- Lower Carbon Footprint: Producing plant-based glass requires less energy than traditional glass, which must be melted at extremely high temperatures.
- Renewable Resources: Unlike traditional silica sand (which is being depleted), plant-based glass relies on fast-growing crops.

Technical Properties:
- Lightweight & Strong: lighter and more impact-resistant than conventional glass.
- Customizable Transparency: can be fully transparent or slightly translucent.
- Thermoformable: can be shaped at lower temperatures, making them more energy-efficient to produce.
